William "Junior" Pierce was an American serial killer who committed at least nine
murders between June 1970 and January 1971 in three different states.

The front is dated August 28, 1971 and reads, "Baxley, GA: An attempt to remove accused mass murderer William "Junior" Pierce (seen here in a 1971 filer) from the Appling County jail was broken up by a Sheriff J.B. Red Carter. Somewhere between 10 and 12 men, some of them armed, demanded that Pierce be turned over to them. The Sheriff refused, disarmed one man, and succeeding in arresting six while the others fled. One of a dozen state troopers called in said, "It had all the earmarks of a lynch mob."
