John Du Pont was a convicted murderer and former philanthropist. An heir to the Du Pont family fortune, he was a published ornithologist, philatelist, conchologist, sports enthusiast, and self-styled wrestling coach. He died in prison while serving a sentence of 30 years for the murder of Dave Schultz. 1976 first edition copy of South Pacific Birds Hans signed on the title page, John Du Pont. The book is in very good condition, with light rubbing to the corners and tightly bound. This has been signed by the author, and also contains a former owner's signature and about a dozen pages with margin notes. Condition is good to good plus. The dust jacket is in fair condition and shows wear and tear with some tiny chips to the edge. Yellow sticker affixed to the front indicating that the book is autographed.
