Gerard John Schaefer was an American law enforcement officer and serial killer known as "The Hangman." Schaefer was active during the 1960's until his last arrest in 1973.
Schaefer was convicted of two murders and remains a suspect in at least 26 more killings. Schaefer was murdered in prison on December 3, 1995.
